«The Georgian authorities had received and are receiving substantial support from the United States, including assistance weapons and trainings provided to the Georgian armed forces to increase their military capacities», stated the RSO Foreign Minister commenting on the signing of the Georgian-U.S. Charter on Strategic Partnership.
«Though the U.S. had reputedly stated that the Georgian armed forces trained and equipped within the frames of their program would not be used in armed activities in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the August 2008 hostilities showed that these particular forces trained by the U.S. participated in the aggression», underscored the Minister. According to him, South Ossetia is "concerned over the continuing military cooperation between the U.S. and Georgia when under the pretense of humanitarian aid, weapons are being delivered for Georgia and everything is being done to restore the military capacities of Georgian armed forces».
«We are certainly not against contacts in the field of culture, human rights and democratization. Nevertheless, we would once again draw attention to the fact that the military cooperation of Georgia with Western countries might cause development of a new conflict and new war in the Caucasus. We hope that the states which are named democratic understand it well enough and would take necessary measures to prevent the Georgian militarists from new aggressions against Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as against other neighboring states», underlined the Foreign Minister.
