The president of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity arrived with an official visit to Nicaragua 19 July, reported the president's administration. In the airport, the delegation was met by the Foreign Minister of Nicaragua Samuel Santos. A guard of honor was lined up at the airfield. The South Ossetian delegation includes the Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Murat Djioev, the State Advisor to the President Konstantin Kochiev, RSO Ambassador in the RF Dmitry Medoev, as well as representatives the parliament and government of the Republic.
"At the official ceremony, Eduard Kokoity expressed his gratitude to the authorities of Nicaragua for the invitation to visit the country. The president of South Ossetia had belatedly arrived in Managua,. since the airplane of the South Ossetian delegation had an emergency landing in the airport of Helsinki on 17 July. The emergency landing was caused with technical problems – malfunctioning of one of the plane engines", reported the administration. Today, Eduard Kokoity will participate in the celebrations on the 31st anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution. Negotiations with the president of the country Daniel Ortega are also planned. Within the frameworks of the official visit, bilateral agreements in various spheres are to be signed. The delegation of South Ossetia will also visit Caracas upon the invitation from the president of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, where bilateral meetings will be held, including with the president of the country.
It is worth reminding that on 5 September 2008, the president of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega signed decrees on establishing full-fledge diplomatic relations with South Ossetia and Abkhazia. On 10 September 2009, Venezuela recognized the independence of South Ossetia. In July, ambassadors of the two Latin American states submitted their credentials to the presidents of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
