The president of the Republic of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity participated in the program "Expertise" of the radio-station "Golos Rossii" (voice of Russia). During live broadcast from Tskhinval, the second anniversary of the Russian Federation's recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia was discussed.
While responding to the question of the presenter about the feelings Eduard Kokoity had on 26 August 2008, the president said that the day he achieved the goal of his life, the goal that the South Ossetian people aimed at throughout many years.

|When I was told that the President of the RF Dmitry Medvedev signed the decree on recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, I thought I was played a joke on, but I saw tears of happiness on the eyes of my friends and colleagues and understood it was true. It is hard to tell the feelings of a man who had been struggling for this for long, it is harder to put in words the feelings of the whole people that went through tragedies and hardships, but had finally achieved the goal", said the president. He stated that the decision made by Russia two years ago put an end to unipolarity in the world order. "With the recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia Russia showed that the world ceased to be unipolar. Russia challenged unilateral decisions on international problems made in favor of one state – the United States trying to dominate over the rest of the world and impose only their decision", said Kokoity.
On 26 August, South Ossetia marked the second anniversary of the Russian Federation's recognition of the independence of the Republic. Celebrations were taking place in Tskhinval and in districts of South Ossetia.
