The rally "Election on March 25 – is the path to prosperity and stability" has been held today in the capital of South Ossetia. The action was organized by the Public Chamber in support of presidential elections in South Ossetia, scheduled for March. Despite the bitter frost more than four thousand people gathered in the center of Tskhinval: representatives of political parties, members of the public, citizens and residents of the districts of the country.
National flags of the Russian Federation and South Ossetia, flags of political parties, the slogans "No to split our society," "March 25 - the day of consolidation of our society," "Do not let civil confrontation."- were waving above the gathered. Speakers have noted that the upcoming elections in March – both of the President of the Russian Federation and the President of South Ossetia – are the central events of political life and how the elections will be held, who will support the voters,- that will directly affect on the life of people. "Election of March 25 – is a choiceless alternative for the future development of South Ossetia. It`s necessary to consolidate the South Ossetian society and this can be provided by the March elections, "- the Chairman of the Writers' Union, a member of Parliament of South Ossetia Meliton Kazity said in his speech. Other speakers have also pointed out that there is only one way out of the country crisis – to go to the polls on March 25 and elect the President of South Ossetia in accordance with all laws.

Exactly 16 years ago, in February 1996, as a result of aggravation of social contradictions, irresponsible actions of the South Ossetian politicians and neglect of the law, the acute socio-political crisis broke out in the Republic, which resulted in some loss of life. We cannot allow repetition of events that may discredit the statehood of South Ossetia", - a writer, chief editor of "Khurzaerin" Yuri Gabaraev has stressed. Representatives of scientific and creative intelligentsia, politicians and public figures have also addressed the protesters. According to the information of the Interior Ministry, the rally has gathered more than four thousand people, instead of the claimed one thousand.
