International observers have the opportunity to carry out their functions in the second round of presidential re-elections of South Ossetia. This has been announced today at a briefing in the CEC informational center by the Foreign Minister of South Ossetia Murat Dzhioev.
"Today is a significant day for the Republic - 11 years ago, April 8, 2001 in South Ossetia by holding a referendum was adopted the Constitution of the Republic of South Ossetia - said Dzhioev. - And today, in accordance with this Constitution and the electoral legislation, the second ballot of the presidential elections is being held in the Republic. "

According to Dzhioev, today the presidential election process in South Ossetia will be monitored by 43 observers from five countries.
"All the observers have the opportunity to fully exercise their functions at all the polling stations, opened in the election day in South Ossetia", - underlined the Minister.
He has noted that the election observers are representing such organizations as the Russian State Duma, Federation Council, the People's Assembly of the Republic of Abkhazia, the European Institute for Democracy and Cooperation (France), the National Assembly of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, the CEC of the Russian Federation, the CEC of North Ossetia- Alania, the Russian Foundation for free elections, the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Institute of Political Technologies, and others.
It should be reminded, that today a second round of the presidential elections is being held in South Ossetia. 84 polling stations are opened for the electoral process, including two ones in the village of the Upper Hand (Dzausky district of South Ossetia), for citizens of South Ossetia, living in North Ossetia. One polling station has opened in the embassy in Moscow.
The lists of voters have included 34,935 people; 40,000 ballots have been printed.
Two candidates will fight for the post of the head of the state - former Chairman of the KGB Leonid Tibilov and the Commissioner for Human Rights under the President of South Ossetia David Sanakoev.
