In addition to the military confrontation with Georgia, South Ossetia is known for its rich history, but in the Russian information space the Republic is often associated with corruption scandals and political upheaval. This opinion was expressed by Director of the Russian Center for Political Science "North-South", the Deputy Dean of the History Department of the Moscow State University Alexey Vlasov, during a meeting with the faculty and students of the South Ossetian State University. In his lecture "Politics in post-Soviet Russia: Current Status and Prospects" Vlasov expressed his vision on Russia`s political relations with the countries of the South Caucasus - Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia.

Vlasov has noted that the coverage of South Ossetia in the information field of Russia is not always unambiguous, linked to embezzlement of large sums allocated for the restoration or the coverage of the presidential elections," - said the expertIn his opinion, it is necessary to develop interaction of institutions of civil society in Russia and South Ossetia, "as the practice of the "face –to- face" human communication, gradually gives positive results."In addition, the expert believes that it is necessary to establish cooperation of civil societies of Russia and South Ossetia."Suppose if Georgia remove its ban on the work of the European institutions, there will instantly begin global humanitarian expansion. It is quite realistic to assume that after six months since the presidential elections in Georgia, the law "on the occupied territories'' generally will be canceled" - suggested Vlasov.Responding to questions of the South Ossetian State University students about the possibility of entering South Ossetia into Russia, Vlasov has said that it is a matter to be solved "not within a day and not by one man.""In accordance with international law, the entry of South Ossetia into the Russian Federation will cause a storm of emotions in the West. On the other hand, in the South Ossetian society there is no certain answer to this question, and these solutions take place through holding national referendums. But one thing is certain: Russia addresses the needs of the South Caucasus, and this step is positive, "- said the analyst. The lecture touched on the situation in Abkhazia, which, according to Vlasov, has its advantage over South Ossetia - a well-developed tourist infrastructure. It should be reminded that today in Tskhinval, have opened the Russian Humanitarian Resource Center and the mission of the Russian Political Studies Center "North-South". The departments of history of the South Ossetian State University and the Moscow State University signed a cooperation agreement. For the South Ossetian side the agreement was signed by the Dean of the History Department of the South Ossetian State University Taymuraz Tadtaev, for the Russian side- by Deputy Dean of the History Department Alexey Vlasov.
