South Ossetian President Leonid Tibilov met with media practitioners of the Republic. The President congratulated them on their professional holiday – the Day of the media, noting a large contribution of journalists to formation of the statehood of South Ossetia.
"We know the media's role in the life of any nation. Very much depends on how objectively are covered socio-political processes in the Republic, promoting to create a particular image, forming a public opinion. Therefore I would like to see in the pages of our publications objective criticism "- said Tibilov.
The President has also noted the role of the South Ossetian media in the information blockade breakthrough, in which the Republic was for many years.
"We remember the obstacles created by Georgia and many Western countries in August 2008 so the world not to learn the truth, that it was Georgia that attacked South Ossetia. You`ve made a great contribution to the fact that today South Ossetia is an independent, recognized state. "- the president said.
Leonid Tibilov has assured that the government of the Republic will fully support the media in South Ossetia, including the improvement of material support.
During the meeting, the President presented the state awards and honorary titles to the journalists and media workers.
On professional holiday the media workers were also congratulated by Prime Minister Rostislav Khugaev and a Chairman of the State Committee for Information, Communications and Mass Media Vyacheslav Gobozov.
