Iran's Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanai said his country's interest in establishing cooperation in the field of education and science with South Ossetia.
According to ossetia.news, the statement of the Iranian diplomat was made during the International Theoretical and Practical Conference "Iran and the North Caucasus: History and Prospects for Cooperation".
The statement of the Ambassador was supplemented by the Minister for North Caucasus Affairs Lev Kuznetsov, who has noted that South Ossetia is a state recognized by Russia and it is a separate subject for the mutual relations of the countries.
"Single Ossetian people, common roots, single language and the impulse that we get here, will certainly spread across the North Caucasus," Kuznetsov said.
The Iranian Ambassador expressed his opinion on Georgia's joining NATO.
"Of course, all countries are independent, and they act within their national interests, but we as a major regional power are interested in ensuring that no any country from our region joins NATO. And if we look around ourselves, in the Middle East, NATO's presence did not bring any benefits, "Mehdi Sanai said.
Prospects for establishing cooperation with Iran in the field of education and science have been discussed for many years in South Ossetia. In the South Ossetian State University in 2009 was opened the Ossetian-Persian faculty, preparing specialists in Iranian history and culture, lexicology of the Persian language and other areas.
With the purpose of more effective preparation of students of this faculty in the framework of cooperation with the St. Petersburg State University, specialists of the Department of Iranian Philology of St. Petersburg State University came to South Ossetia to read the course of lectures.
Moreover, at the embassies level, it was being worked out the issue of sending students of the Ossetian-Persian faculty for training in Iran.
