Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitriy Medoev as part of his working visit to Abkhazia took part in a scientific conference on the theme "The Republic of Abkhazia: the experience of the struggle for independence, modern realities, development prospects".
According to the press service of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry, the conference was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of independence and the victory of Abkhazia in the 1992-1993 Patriotic War, as well as the 10th anniversary of its recognition by the Russian Federation.
President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba, who took part in the work of the scientific site, noted that the dramatic events experienced by the Abkhaz people confirmed its readiness for further struggle in the name of preserving freedom, independence and strengthening the sovereignty of the Abkhazian state.
Dmitry Medoev presented at the conference the report "Russia-South Ossetia: Two Countries-One People", which touched upon the history of the Ossetian-Russian relations, the 10th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the RSO by the Russian Federation, and prospects for bilateral relations.
According to the head of the Foreign Ministry of South Ossetia, August 8 will remain in the historical memory of the Ossetian people, as the gloomiest and tragic page.
"This was the year of the greatest losses. At the same time, we consider 2008 to be the year of the greatest achievement - the restoration of the Ossetian statehood. Therefore, August 26 in South Ossetia is rightfully considered a national holiday - the Victory Day! ", - said Medoev.
Minister of foreign Affairs of South Ossetia has emphasized that the determination of the Russian leadership in making decisions that are vital for the Ossetian people will always be highly appreciated in Ossetia..
"Russia has made a choice, this choice is final and irrevocable," - Medoev said.
Following the results of the conference, there were made appeals on further international recognition of Abkhazia's independence.
