The official delegation of parliamentarians of the Syrian Arab Republic will arrive in South Ossetia in April, 2019, said Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic, Peter Gassiev, during the regular session.
"The Syrian Arab Republic gladly accepted our invitation to visit South Ossetia and its representatives are going to arrive in April. This will be the first official visit of the Syrian delegation, during which will take place the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the parliaments of South Ossetia and Syria," said Gassiev.
In accordance with Article 12 of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Syrian Arab Republic of July 23, 2018, the deputies approved the regular composition of the working group on cooperation between the Parliament of South Ossetia and the People’s Council of the Syrian Arab Republic. It has included representatives of all the parliamentary parties headed by the Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliamentary Relations of South Ossetia, Igor Kochiev.
Syria recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on May 29, 2018. On July 23, 2019 President of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, paid an official visit to Syria.
