The border post at a strategically important height prevents the Georgian side from trying to establish control over part of the territory of South Ossetia in the area of ​​the village of Uista.

From early morning, South Ossetian border guards began to equip a post over the village of Uista (Tsnelis), paved the way there. In order to prevent provocations of the Georgian side in the area of ​​the South Ossetian-Georgian border in the area of ​​this settlement, the combined group of the KGB border service of the Republic on Thursday occupied a height located in South Ossetia near the border, restored the state border mark and raised the flag of South Ossetia on the border with Georgia.

The KGB has reported that the humanitarian operation is exclusively peaceful.

“The actions of the South Ossetian border guards do not pose a threat to residents of the border. Settlements Kobe and Chorchona and are aimed at maintaining the border regime, ensuring the security of citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia living in the border zone of Znaur district, and stabilizing the military-political situation in the region,” says the statement of the KGB circulated in the media

The KGB has noted that by designating the state border line of South Ossetia, the South Ossetian border guards, who together with the Russians guard are protecting the borders of the State of Alania, guarantee peace and stability.

On the situation at the border

Last week, South Ossetia announced the illegal construction by Georgia of a roadblock on the South Ossetian territory near the border village of Uista (Tsnelis). The authorities of the Republic made an appropriate statement to international organizations and countries of the world, in which they expressed serious concern about the situation and drew attention to the provocations of the Georgian side.

At a meeting in the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) with the mediation of the OSCE and the European Union, the delegation of South Ossetia demanded that the blockade should be removed, Georgia did not compromise. After that, South Ossetia put up roadblocks near the village of Tsnelis and strengthened its presence in this border region.

Negotiations in the IPRM format have not yet yielded results, it was decided to continue the discussion.
