On Saturday, September 21, the Orthodox of South Ossetia are celebrating one of the main church holidays - the Nativity of the Virgin. On this day, festive services will be held in all the churches of the Republic.

Believers on this day put aside all their affairs in order to visit the temple and devote themselves to prayers in the name of peace and tranquility. Also, in Ossetian families, according to tradition, they prepare three pies and offer their prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Blessed Virgin Mary helped and defended South Ossetia in difficult days.

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was established by the church in the 4th century. The first mention of it can be found in the Patriarch of Constantinople Proclus (439-446 years) and in the Breviary ( (liturgical book) of Pope Gelasius (492-496 years).
