Ossetian Days in the Hermitage: a tour of the museum and a collection of Scythian gold

President of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, at a meeting with the Director General of the State Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky thanked the leadership of St. Petersburg and the Hermitage for the events held to mark the 270th anniversary of the First Ossetian Embassy in Russia, for organizing the Days of Ossetian Culture in the Hermitage, the presidential press service reports.

According to Anatoly Bibilov, the history and culture of Ossetia deserves that the world scientific community knows more about it, and the Hermitage has done a great work in this direction.

Mikhail Piotrovsky at the meeting expressed readiness for cooperation. For the President and the delegation of South Ossetia, a tour was held in the halls of the Hermitage. The South Ossetian delegation was greatly interested in the collection of Scythian gold.

Anatoly Bibilov also took part in the opening of the Days of Ossetia in the Hermitage. The opening speech at the event was made by Mikhail Piotrovsky.

“Everything connected with Ossetia is connected with the world culture. Alans, Scythians - this is a huge culture. Today, in addition to the solemn part of the event, there will also stories about scientific research and problems associated with Ossetia. You will also see wonderful examples of Ossetian art,” he said.

At the opening ceremony of the Days of Ossetia, the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov noted the significant contribution of representatives of Ossetia to the history of Russia.

“Ossetia is one of the brightest pages not only in the history of Russia, but also the world community. At the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, we will exchange knowledge and experience,” he said and wished success and good luck to the Ossetian delegation.

As part of the Days of Ossetian Culture in the Hermitage, museum staff delivered lectures: “Color inlays in Koban bronzes”, “Alanian world on the Silk Road”, “Ossetians in the Imperial Convoy” and “Images of Ossetia and Kosta Khetagurov”.

There was also a concert with the participation of the Dance Ensemble "Iriston - St. Petersburg", the Instrumental Ensemble "Iriston - St. Petersburg", the Orchestra of Folk Instruments led by Oleg Khodov and students of the St. Petersburg Music College named after Rimsky-Korsakov.
