Head of the ICRC office: I hope coronavirus will not penetrate into South Ossetia

South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev on Tuesday received the new head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Republic of South Ossetia Carmen Echesarret, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reports.

During the conversation, they discussed issues related to the activities of the representative office in South Ossetia, in particular, humanitarian programs that the Committee of the Red Cross implements in accordance with its mandate, and considered the organization’s plans for the near future.

Particular attention was paid to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the importance of intensifying the efforts of the entire international community to counter the spread of this infection and neutralize its negative effects.

Carmen Echesarret has expressed hope that the virus will not penetrate into the territory of South Ossetia, as well as the readiness of the mission to provide the necessary assistance to South Ossetia in the fight against coronavirus.

Dmitry Medoev positively assessed the results of the ICRC’s activities in South Ossetia, in particular, the work of the Tripartite Coordination Mechanism to search for missing persons, and expressed hope for continued fruitful cooperation with the ICRC.
