Commemorative events took place on Saturday in the various cities of Italy, as well as in the Republic of San Marino on the Apennines, on the occasion of the centenary of the Ossetian genocide committed by Georgian forces in South Ossetia.

Earlier it was reported that President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov has signed a decree on the establishment on June 20 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Ossetian Genocide, carried out by the authorities of Menshevik Georgia. In this regard, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia appealed to the international community, parliamentarians and governments of foreign states to condemn and call to international legal responsibility the current government of Georgia as the successor to the government of Georgia in 1918-1920.

“After a hundred years, these tragic events have acquired truly symbolic significance. Therefore, today in 20 Italian cities, as well as in the Republic of San Marino, dozens of friends of South Ossetia honored the memory of the victims of genocide with a minute of silence and put up posters with the image of the national flag of South Ossetia and the inscription“ One Hundred Years the genocide of the people of South Ossetia committed by Georgia. We remember, "said RIA Novosti the head of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia in Italy, Mauro Murgia.

According to him, this peculiar flash mob of memory passed throughout the country: in Venice, Verona, Bologna, Florence, Pesaro, Naples, Catania, Cagliari and other cities. The action was attended by some deputies of the national parliament and regional councils, and representatives of the public.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that it would be good for the current Georgian authorities to know the long history of relations with the peoples of Abkhazia and South Ossetia if they want to establish relations with them today. Then the Russian President, in particular, noted the rigidity with which Georgian troops acted in Ossetia in 1919 and 1920, adding that "this is exactly what is called genocide today."
