President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov met with the head of the protection department of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Republic of South Ossetia Roman Vulfovich, the press service of the head of state reports.

The meeting was also attended by acting Foreign Minister Dmitry Medoev; Presidential Commissioner for Human Rights Inal Tasoev.

The head of state has noted that the ICRC is doing serious work to search for persons who went missing during the years of the Georgian aggression against the Ossetian people, and thanked the mission for its assistance.

“These questions are raised at virtually all international venues. Unfortunately, this year there was no serious work in this direction. But I am sure that we will do our best to find these people. I would like to note that, despite the facts, the video footage provided on the three young guys who went missing in 2008, the Georgian side does not react to this. Moreover, I believe that they do it on purpose.

It is absolutely clear that these guys were in the dungeons of a Georgian prison. But, unfortunately, these facts do not receive due attention from the Georgian government. I am sure that the presence of the Red Cross in South Ossetia will help us in these matters,” said Anatoly Bibilov.

He also noted the humanitarian mission of the organization and thanked for the attention given to low-income and needy people.

For his part, Roman Vulfovich assured the President that he would continue to facilitate the process of searching for the missing persons. He also emphasized the neutrality and impartiality of the ICRC's actions, regardless of national origin.

“Our efforts are aimed at helping people in need. Our program is aimed at helping the most vulnerable people.

The biggest difficulties to date are due to the adopted restrictive measures. This creates additional difficulties for people. And we are trying to provide humanitarian assistance,” he said.

During the meeting, the issue of the ICRC's work in places of detention was also discussed.

Anatoly Bibilov expressed gratitude to the mission “for the interest in people who are in serious condition. I hope we will have close communication and the issues that you raised at this meeting, we will work through and resolve them".
