President Anatoly Bibilov took part in the reporting meeting of the board of the Foreign Intelligence Service of South Ossetia. According to the press service of the head of state, the meeting summed up the results of the Foreign Intelligence Service for the past year, and identified the priority tasks and areas of work for the current year.

In his report, the SVR head Alexei Varziev has noted that the key factor of tension in the region remains "the priority of the military-political leadership of Georgia to integrate their country into the NATO and the EU structures, which contributes to the deployment of elements of NATO infrastructure in Georgia."

“Tbilisi and its allies continue to take steps to create tension points along the borders of South Ossetia. Tbilisi is also taking provocative actions aimed at preventing the work on marking the South Ossetian-Georgian state border,” the SVR head said.

He also noted such factors of influence on the regional situation as hostilities between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the activities of a network of military biological laboratories, one of which is located in Georgia and is a source of constant danger for the entire region.

After listening to the reports of the SVR leadership, Anatoly Bibilov has emphasized that Georgia does not abandon its revanchist plans.

“This is expressed not only in the fact that it does not sign the Memorandum on the Non-Use of Force, does not recognize the genocide of Ossetians, does not recognize the statehood of South Ossetia, does not recognize the fact of the attack on South Ossetia, but also in the fact that provocations on the border of the Republic of South Ossetia do not stop. A vivid example is the situation in the village of Uista, where Georgia is clearly demonstrating an aggressive plan towards South Ossetia. Here, undoubtedly, the restraining factor for Georgia is the increased attention to security on the border of the power structures of South Ossetia, the presence of the 4th Russian military base and the Border Guard Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation on the territory of South Ossetia,” the President said.

He noted Georgia's participation in attempts to destabilize the situation in South Ossetia itself.

“We perfectly see the activity of social media users who, posing as Ossetian patriots, play off our citizens with different political views. The organization, created before 2008 headed by Dmitry Sanakoev is still functioning in Georgia, there are Ossetian-speaking citizens who are participating in escalating the situation in social networks,” Anatoly Bibilov said.

Based on the reports presented, as well as the steps and actions taken by the SVR officers, the President assessed the service's activities as satisfactory.

“I am satisfied with the work of the Foreign Intelligence Service and I want to express my gratitude to its leadership, as well as to all its staff.

I am confident that in the future you will do everything to minimize the threats emanating from Georgia. You have a lot of work to do in this direction. I have no doubt you can handle it,” concluded the head of state.
