Security is a process that needs to be continuously maintained, managed by improving one's approaches and methods, analyzing and predicting all emerging opportunities to change the existing balance, President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov said, speaking on Wednesday at the solemn meeting dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day.
“As head of state and commander in chief, I see our common task with you in the constant strengthening and improvement of national security systems in all its aspects. We have managed to achieve significant progress in this work, but, as is well known, security is not secured once and for all, a mothballed situation.
The country's defense capability should not have gaps and weak links. We simply do not have the right to allow this for the sake of the future of our country and people. Our work must be systematic and proactive, and this is the task of each of us at the entrusted frontier,” the President said.
He has added that he considers it his direct duty and liability as commander-in-chief to effectively control the level of combat readiness, provide assistance to improve logistics and further increase the level of comprehensive support for military personnel.
“We all know that life makes high demands on everyone who serves in the Armed Forces. It is not easy to meet these requirements and expectations of the Motherland, which handed us military weapons. The military profession has always been a matter of courageous, strong-willed. I am sure that such people serve in our Armed Forces.
Among our servicemen, we see the best examples of patriotism, devotion to military affairs, excellent examples of military training and combat capability.
This is evidenced by the excellent results shown by our military at the prestigious international competitions,” the President stressed.
He has added that the evidence of the high prestige of the military profession in South Ossetia is the aspiration of young people to military service, to enter higher military educational institutions, the choice of a military profession in order to defend the Motherland and devote their whole lives to this choice.
“Such life guidelines for young people are clear evidence of the authority among the people of the military, people whose life calling is to serve the Motherland in the Armed Forces. This is, first of all, the officer corps, the basis of any military formation and any army.
The quality of combat training, discipline, and the attitude of a soldier to military service depend on the officers. Throughout our history, the Ossetian officer has been and remains a model of a conscientious attitude to service, high military qualifications, patriotism, courage and loyalty to officer honor, an example for a young soldier. I am sure that this high name and the rank of an officer will remain a symbol of honor in the future,” he said.
Bibilov has added that words of special gratitude and recognition on this day are addressed to veterans.
“Warriors who, at the call of the Fatherland, stood up to defend the country in a troubled time, heroes whose names have become a living legend for young people, you taught new generations to be loyal to their people, be proud of their country, boldly go into battle, fight and win.
Dear veterans! We remember your exploits and are immensely grateful for your military work, dedication and heroism,” the head of state stressed.
The solemn meeting was attended by officials of the Republic, Russian Ambassador to the Republic Marat Kulakhmetov, Ambassador of Abkhazia to South Ossetia Alan Elbakiev, ex-president of the country Leonid Tibilov, representatives of various power structures of the state. The event ended with a festive concert performed by creative teams from the south and north of Ossetia.
