Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia issued a message in connection with the start of the Russian military operation to protect the inhabitants of the DPR. The document is posted on the official website of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic.
"The Republic of South Ossetia expressed strong support for the decision of the Russian Federation to conduct a special military operation to protect the inhabitants of Donbass from the current Kiev nationalist regime,
Over the past many years, the central authorities of Ukraine, having sacrificed a large part of the state sovereignty and independence of the country, in order to please their Western allies and patrons, obediently follow in the wake of a frenzied anti-Russian campaign, deliberately and systematically destroy their own country, not wanting to take into account either the interests of their citizens, nor the life and future of the peoples of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.
In the current conditions, the actions of the Russian Federation to recognize the independence of these two states and provide them with immediate military assistance have impeccable legal and military-political grounds and are the only remaining opportunity to stop the long-term genocide of the inhabitants of Donbass," the Foreign Ministry said in the statement.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that South Ossetia is closely watching the anti-Russian hysteria unfolding in Georgia's ally Ukraine.
"We consider it necessary to recall that it was Ukraine that provided significant military and political support to Georgia in carrying out a full-scale aggression against the Republic of South Ossetia in August 2008," the Foreign Ministry has recalled.
They warned the Georgian authorities against the desire to escalate the situation again, creating new threats to stability and security in the region.
