Medoev: "The demilitarization of Georgia is an important condition for the peaceful development of the political process in the South Caucasus"

South Ossetia and Abkhazia reaffirmed the course towards strengthening and further developing traditional fraternal relations between peoples, the parties again supported Russia's decision to launch a special military operation and recognize the independence of the Donbass republics.

The media center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia hosted a briefing by the Foreign Ministers of South Ossetia and Abkhazia Dmitry Medoev and Inal Ardzinba. The Ministers summed up the results of the Ossetian-Abkhazian negotiations, noted the high level of interstate cooperation between the two friendly states.

Regarding relations with Georgia, Dmitry Medoev noted the urgent need for the recognition of the state independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia by the neighboring state, emphasizing that against the background of the processes in Ukraine, the demilitarization of Georgia is an important condition on the way to establishing stability and security in the region as a whole.

"The NATO-Georgia 2022 military exercises scheduled for March this year cannot but cause serious concern both in South Ossetia and Abkhazia. We strongly condemn the ongoing militarization of Georgia. This will not lead to good," the South Ossetian Foreign Minister said.

Foreign Minister of Abkhazia Inal Ardzinba has noted that in the current complex geopolitical realities, the openness of the United Nations as a key institution for ensuring international security is of particular importance.

"Every nation and every people has the right to speak in the United Nations. At the same time, we call on the state that has committed military aggression against our peoples - Georgia, to recognize the sovereignty and independence of our republics, to sign an agreement on international guarantees on the non-use of force," said. Ardzinba.

He noted the exceptional importance of the work to intensify our international contacts. "Our countries stand for the formation of a truly multipolar world, where the interests of all states are taken into account, the equality of large and small nations is ensured, and culture and the unique original path of development of each people are respected," Ardzinba said.

It should be noted that the Foreign Minister of South Ossetia is on a working visit to Abkhazia, where several meetings were held in the government.
