With the recognition of South Ossetia, the topic of reunification and becoming part of Russia has become even more relevant, historian Ruslan Dzattiaty believes.
The historian has reminded that Ossetia became part of Russia in 1774. Ruslan Dzattiaty has emphasized that the Ossetians were always taking an active part in all wars, defending the interests of the Russian state. They always showed feat and heroism, and in the Russian-Turkish war they demonstrated unparalleled courage. As confirmation, he cited a quote from Valentin Pikul's novel "Bayazet": "... Three Ossetians from the militia remained– people of great military dignity."
“This once again confirms the fact that the Ossetians have always been on guard of the interests of Russia, supported them since the 19th century. The idea of the united Ossetia was in the heart of all cultural Ossetians, and historically all sensible humanity spoke about the unification of Ossetia, but Georgia always opposed this process. Therefore, many activists were shot in 1937, others were arrested, etc.,” the historian explained.
Today, according to the historian, the people of South Ossetia are looking forward to the implementation of the idea of South Ossetia joining Russia. He admits that this idea may also have opponents who either think so thoughtlessly, or hostile voices are penetrating.
“The speech of Anatoly Bibilov is not new, he was raising this issue before, but then there were other conditions. Today the situation has changed: in South Ossetia – there is Russian legislation, the population of the Republic are citizens of Russia, a wonderful road that connects us with the great Russia, constant assistance and support in the development of our state. The only obstacle is the customs, which, in the case of reunification, will definitely be removed,” Zattiaty said.
