To announce the re-election of the President of South Ossetia on Thursday, April 28, is at odds with the law that determines the holding of voting on Sunday, President of the RSO Anatoly Bibilov said during a live broadcast on his Instagram page.
“I do not know when the re-election of president will be held, this should be determined by the CEC. As you know, a trial was held, it recognized to announce the re-election for April 28 as illegal. If we follow the logic, of course, we proceed from the requirement that is in the law to announce the re-election for a period not later than 15 days, the President said. “To announce the re-election on Thursday is at odds with the law that determines the holding of elections on Sunday, this is done because people do not work on this day, they can safely come and fulfill their electoral duty," Bibilov said.
He has also focused on the fact that even if April 28 is declared a day off in the Republic, it is impossible to do the same in Russia and Abkhazia.
“In Moscow, Vladikavkaz, Sukhum, polling stations for the election of the president of our Republic are also opening, where our citizens living their vote, this is about 20 percent of voters. And these people give their votes not only to Anatoly Bibilov, they also gave preference to other candidates in the first round, and, accordingly, in the second round they will vote for one of the two contenders for the post of head of state. Therefore, holding elections on a weekday means violating their constitutional rights,” Anatoly Bibilov noted.
He has expressed hope that the re-elections will be held within the framework of the law.
“We will not have any claims to the decision of the CEC, we do not influence it in any way. Everyone seen that during the first round not a single complaint was received by the Central Election Commission, I would like to thank it for such work. I hope that it will make a decision within the framework of the law, and the people will have the opportunity to come and vote for the candidate whose positions are closer to them,” the head of state has concluded.
