Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was awarded the highest state award of the Republic of South Ossetia - the Order of Uatsamonga.
This was announced by President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev at the briefing at the location of the 4th Russian base in Tskhinval.
The head of state spoke about the fact that a teleconference had taken place with the Russian side, dedicated to the holiday date - Peacekeeper's Day.
“Participants of the teleconference recalled the events of 30 years ago, when a peacekeeping contingent came to the land of South Ossetia to prevent another war. Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu then led the peacekeeping operation. For his contribution to the peacekeeping operation in South Ossetia, we awarded him the Uatsamonga award. We are grateful to him for the help that he continues to provide to the Republic today,” Gagloev said.
According to him, the order will be handed over to the Russian Minister when visiting the official delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia in Moscow.
The head of state also noted the role of the 4th Russian base in South Ossetia, which is the guarantor of the Republic's security after August 2008.
