“People of South Ossetia are celebrating the Republic Day today. This solemn day is associated with the memory of the event that became the starting point of a new historical era for our country. On September 20, 1990, people's deputies decided to transform the South Ossetian Autonomous Region into the South Ossetian Soviet Democratic Republic,” said Gagloev.
He noted that at that time the strength of the spirit and the will of the people fighting for freedom did not allow the enemy to wipe South Ossetia off the face of the earth.
“Proudly noting the feat of those who created and defended the Republic, the feat of nationwide stamina, will and courage, we address with words of boundless gratitude to those who supported our people in the most difficult times for us,” Gagloev continued. “The community of historical destinies and the struggle for freedom forever united us by bonds of friendship with Abkhazia and Transnistria. We gratefully remember the support of the peoples of the North Caucasus. Of course, it is impossible to imagine the struggle of South Ossetia without the support of the North. We are one nation, and the two parts of Ossetia have one heart! We are completely devoted to our unity and will always be together, whether in a difficult time or in an hour of joyful celebration.
