Commemorative events dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Georgia's military aggression against the Republic in August 2008 will be held in South Ossetia.

As the Minister of Culture of the Republic Rada Dzagoeva told reporters, on August 7, in the evening, the performance "The Last Witness" will be shown at the State Drama Theater.

“The performance tells about the events of the 20s of the last century, this is the story of our genocide. The tragedy of the Ossetian people is connected not only with the date of August 8, it actually lasted a whole century. And it ended on August 26, when we gained the long-awaited recognition. Therefore, on the next anniversary of the tragic August events, this production will sound even sharper and once again remind us of the pages of history that should never be forgotten, no matter how many years have passed, ”said Dzagoeva.

On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgia carried out an armed attack on South Ossetia. As a result of the war, more than a thousand people were killed, of which 72 were Russian servicemen. On August 26, 2008 Russia recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the recognition of the independence of the two republics reflects the existing realities and is not subject to revision.
