In South Ossetia, the incident with the detention of violators on the border of the Republic is regarded as a direct consequence of the refusal, first of all, of official Tbilisi to recognize the reality that the territory of Georgia ends at the line of the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia. This is stated in the official statement of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry.
On November 6, on the territory bordering Georgia, not far from the village of Amdzarin, Leningor district, when the border patrol detained the violators of the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia, the incident occurred, as a result of which one Georgian citizen was injured and later died, another was detained.
The Foreign Ministry has noted that the result of this position, which the Georgian leadership has been trying to maintain for more than 30 years, is, among other things, numerous cases of detention of the Georgian citizens who illegally ended up on the territory of South Ossetia with the demonstrative connivance of the Georgian law enforcement officers.
"So, six cases of detention of violators of the state border have been recorded on the section of the state border where the above incident occurred since April 2023. These facts are presented by Georgian representatives on all possible international platforms as the so-called "illegal abductions", which, according to official Tbilisi, quite fit into the non-existent agenda of the so-called "occupation of part of the territory of Georgia" imposed on the international community," the Foreign Ministry has noted.
The department has emphasized that in South Ossetia such a position is considered absolutely counterproductive and, moreover, provoking incidents similar to what happened that could lead to escalation of tension.
“South Ossetia will continue to take all legal measures to protect against violations of the borders of its sovereign territory and airspace. We once again urge Tbilisi to heed the proposal to begin the joint work on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border, which involves, among other things, determining the procedure for crossing it according to civilized and transparent rules,” the statement of the Foreign Ministry of South Ossetia says.
It should be reminded, that on Monday evening, Georgian citizens from among the radical representatives of the party of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili illegally crossed the state border of South Ossetia in a car with the intention of going deeper into its territory, however, they were discovered by the border patrol.
The violators pointedly ignored the border guards' repeated demands to stop movement and warnings about the use of weapons; moreover, they showed extreme aggression against the border service personnel, posing a threat to their lives and health. During the measures taken to detain the violators, one of them was injured and later died, the second was detained.
