South Ossetia handed over to Georgia a citizen who had served his sentence for violating the state border

A violator of the state border of South Ossetia, after serving his sentence in a penal colony, was handed over to the Georgian side, the KGB press service reports.

“On September 14, 2023, for illegally crossing the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia, employees of the South Ossetian border authorities detained the Georgian citizen Kalashnikov Petr Nikolaevich, born in 2001, resident of Kareli. It was established that this violator deliberately crossed the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia with Georgia in the vicinity n.p. Leningor,” the statement of the department reads.

The KGB has noted that on November 27, 2023, the Leningor District Court found Kalashnikov guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal crossing of the state border” with a sentence of six months of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony.
“On February 8, due to the expiration of the sentence, the offender was released and transferred to Georgia in accordance with the established procedure,” the press service has clarified.
