Boxers from South Ossetia performed well at the BRICS Games in Kazan, the athletes took two bronze medals.
According to the press service of the Committee on Youth Policy and Sports of the Republic of South Ossetia, the South Ossetian athlete Arsen Dzhioev was fighting in the 92+kg weight class.
“In the first fight, he won an undisputed victory, knocking out the opponent from Kyrgyzstan. The second fight was quite intense, after several spectacular attacks, Dzhioev lost the lead to the Belarusian boxer, who is a quarter-finalist at the Olympic Games in Tokyo,” the press service has noted.
As noted by the Committee, Guram Gagiev competed in the 67 kg weight class. In the first fight, he defeated the opponent from the United Arab Emirates, but in the second one he lost to the representative of Uzbekistan.
The BRICS Games are taking place in Kazan from June 12 to 24. The South Ossetian delegation is headed by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Youth Policy and Sports Soslan Gassiev.
The athletes from the Republic of South Ossetia are competing in six types of sports: artistic gymnastics, freestyle wrestling, boxing, table tennis, football and chess.
