South Ossetia has prospects for recognition of sovereignty in Latin America, in which Venezuela and Nicaragua can assist. This was stated to Izvestia by President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev on the eve of the Day of Recognition of State Independence, which will be celebrated on August 26.
The sovereignty of South Ossetia has been recognized by the five UN member states, as well as by several republics with the status of partially recognized or unrecognized.
Alan Gagloev has emphasized that the work is currently underway to recognize the sovereignty of the republic with other members of the international community.
“The work in this direction is ongoing. In addition to establishing contacts with the Republic of Belarus, there are certain prospects for recognition of our Republic in Latin America, where our friends in Venezuela and Nicaragua are ready to assist in building ties with other states in the region. The same work is being carried out with Syria, Russia and Abkhazia within the framework of the quadripartite consultation mechanism,” the President said.
According to him, the changes taking place in the world give hope that the West’s efforts to isolate South Ossetia internationally will fail. And this will open up wide prospects for the Ossetian people to interact with other countries.
“With Russia’s assistance, today our Republic uses any platform to expand the geography of international cooperation. For example, athletes from South Ossetia successfully performed under the flag of the Republic at the 2024 BRICS Games. A little earlier, a large delegation of the South Ossetian youth took part in the international festival held in Sochi. The same thing happens in the cultural sphere, where our creative and dance groups participate in all major international events held under the auspices of Russia,” Gagloev said.
He has noted that these efforts, lead to increased recognition of South Ossetia and the formation of a positive image of our country in the international arena.
