A ceremonial rally dedicated to the "Victory Relay" was held at the Border Guard Service of the FSB of Russia in the Republic of South Ossetia.

The symbol of memory of the heroism of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War was handed over to the border guards of South Ossetia by their colleagues from North Ossetia-Alania.

The head of the Border Directorate of the FSB of Russia in the Republic of South Ossetia Vladimir Shchemelinin has noted that the "Victory Relay" has been a symbol of unity and friendship of the commonwealth of independent states, the preservation of memory and the heroic struggle of the Soviet people against fascism for decades.

"Today, in a solemn atmosphere, on the day of the celebration of the Day of the formation of the Border Guard Service, we took up the "Victory Relay". In order to enhance the traditions of the border guards of the FSB of Russia, we will do everything to preserve the memory of those historical events outside the Russian Federation,” Shchemelinin has assured.

The head of the department has reminded the feat of border guards during the Great Patriotic War.

He has noted that the first blow of the Wehrmacht was taken by soldiers in green caps. Despite the significant superiority of the enemy, border outposts were steadfastly holding the line, not leaving their lines without orders.

“And today, in a difficult situation, we are once again defending the Fatherland from fascism and fighting the distortion of historical events. As part of a special military operation, as 80 years ago, the border guards, including those of our department, shoulder to shoulder with military personnel demonstrate valor and courage along the entire front line, bringing the long-awaited victory closer,” Shchemelinin said.

The history of the “Victory Relay” was told during the event. After the end of the ceremonial rally, the relay symbol was placed in front of the chapel of the residential town of the border guard service.

On May 5, the "Victory Relay" will be handed over to the border guard service of the FSB of Russia for the Chechen Republic.

The action will end on May 28 in Moscow, in the Alexander Garden at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
