A new winery will be opened in South Ossetia with the support of the Russian Export Center. This was announced by Taimuraz Goginov, Trade Representative of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation, following a visit by a delegation of representatives from the Russian Export Center (REC, VEB.RF Group) to the Republic's stand at the Prodexpo 2026 international exhibition. During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for expanding trade and economic cooperation, as well as the implementation of joint export and investment initiatives.
Particular attention was paid to the development of a winemaking project in South Ossetia. The project's parameters are currently being developed, with the potential involvement of the REC support tools. This includes assistance in promoting products on foreign markets, consulting and organizational support, and the use of financial and non-financial export support mechanisms.
"It will take us approximately two to three years to launch the project." The new enterprise will create at least fifty jobs. The memorandum with the Russian Export Center (REC) has opened up new opportunities for South Ossetia to develop export activities. Federal support tools allow our business to use more effectively its potential; more effectively navigate support measures, and develop effective export strategies. Going forward, we will continue to develop the promising 'South Ossetia' brand and strengthen our position in the Russian market," Taimuraz Goginov has noted.
Cooperation between the REC and South Ossetia is developing systematically. The parties previously signed a memorandum of understanding, which provides for joint efforts to enter the foreign markets of mutual interest and increase trade turnover.
"REC places a high priority on supporting trade and economic ties between the Russian Federation and South Ossetia through the joint investment projects. During the exhibition, we were introduced to the products of the existing wineries in South Ossetia and discussed the use of the region's accumulated expertise to scale up the industry with the support of the REC. "It's important that the new project envisions significant mutual trade flows: initially, the acquisition of Russian technological equipment is planned, and then, after production is launched, the delivery of the finished products to the Russian Federation," noted Alexey Kretov, Director of the REC Project Finance Office has noted.
Expanding cooperation and supporting export and investment projects were already discussed at the 1st International Economic Forum "South Ossetia: Investment Horizons," held last September. At the time, Veronika Nikishina, Director General of the Russian Export Center, stated that the REC was ready to support South Ossetia's export and investment projects within its power
The parties expressed their intention to continue the practical implementation of the agreements reached and to develop cooperation in export and investment. During the meeting, a plan for further cooperation between Russian and South Ossetian enterprises was outlined. In particular, the REC delegation highly praised the products of the Ironsan winery and the High-Mountain Kel brewery.
