The war in August 2008. On the eve of invasion...

A massive artillery bombardment of populated areas of South Ossetia, which began on August 1, lasted throughout the night. Six people were killed and twelve injured.
In the night of August 2, the Georgian side has brought down fire on the sleeping town. Heavy fire from automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades was conducted upon the uptown. The ambulances, which were delivering the wounded to the hospital, also came under fire.

At the end of July 2008 the situation in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict escalated down to the limit. The Georgian armed forces started regularly shelling the capital and the villages of South Ossetia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia was instructed to revise the issue of staying the Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia. Such an order was given by President Leonid Tibilov at today`s enlarged meeting with the heads of ministries and agencies.
