Representatives of a number of public organizations, national movements of Karachaevo-Cherkesya made an appeal in which they expressed their concerns about the situation around the Republic of South Ossetia.
”The community and residents of the Republic of Karachevo-Cherkessya are concerned about the situation around the Republic of South Ossetia. Economic, political and now military isolation of this Republic by Georgia creates tension not only in South Ossetia but in the whole North Caucasus region, including Karachaevo-Cherkesya that has a border with Georgia stretching for 200 kilometers. Further escalation of tension in South Ossetia and possible hostilities may entail unpredictable consequences and uncontrollable processes as it was the case during the Georgian- Abkhaz conflict.
We, the representatives of public organizations, national movements appeal to the leadership of Georgia and ask to avoid a tragic mistake and do not undertake military operation, that will destabilize the situation in the Caucasian region. We appeal to the International Community to do everything possible to avoid armed conflict as the North-Caucasian Republic will not be left indifferent”, - says the appeal.
Commenting the appeal, the President of the Republic of Karachaevo-Cherkesya Mustafa Azret-Alievich Badtyev noted that it would have been the worst case scenario for the Georgian-Ossetian conflict resolution. “We together with the Ossetia nation suffered the awful tragedy in Beslan. The scale of the possible conflict outcome can be more tragic and have an effect on the whole of Caucasus. Resolution of the conflict situation during negotiation is in my opinion the only way out of the tension between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia”.
