Peacekeeping forces in the zone of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict discovered in one and a half kilometers to the south of village Shavshvebi a radar installation of the Georgian air defense for detection and pointing, the radar is protected by the Georgian Ministry of Defense subdivision. This information was given to “Res” correspondent by the peacekeepers press-officer Vladimir Ivanov. In order to check the received information on 2nd November was scheduled a monitoring at the south-east border of the JPKF responsibility zone.
The Georgian side refused to participate in the OSCE joint monitoring of the mentioned area, as according to them they were not able to provide security for a group of officers and protect them from the military police of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. The JPKF Commander General Major Marat Kulakhmetov informed the JCC Co-Chairmen and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Georgia about the fact of violation of the agreements.
The JPKF Joint Staff reminds that presence of personnel and military equipment of the MD of Georgia in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone is against all the existing agreements and does not promote confidence building between the sides. Above that presence of military police of the MD of Georgia in the conflict zone is a violation the JCC decisions (Protocol #32, JCC session on 2nd June) and is extremely destabilizing the situation.
