Certain political forces in Georgia, while observing the fatal policy carried out by president Saakashvili, sober-mindedly assess the situation in the country and its international position. Therefore, many oppositional leaders started to communicate with Russia in order to mitigate the current Georgian-Russian relations, stated the South Ossetian Foreign Minister commenting on the recent visit of Zurab Nogaideli, the leader of the movement "For Fair Georgia", to Moscow.
"As to his visit to South Ossetia last December, the meetings focused facilitation of settlement of the missing cases and release of Ossetian detainees from Georgian prisons. It is worth reminding that before that, South Ossetian president Eduard Kokoity pardoned 5 Georgian citizens sentenced by South Ossetian court for committed crimes," said Djioev. Telling about the problem of refugees, the Minister noted that South Ossetia had repeatedly stated at different levels the readiness to discuss this problem within the frames of the international law and with a due account to existing realities. "However, it is necessary to bear in mind that the focus should not be only on the settlement of the problems of those to became refugees in 2008, but to start from 1989 when resulting from the genocide policy and ethnic cleansing carried out in Georgia, more than 100,000 Ossetians were evicted from Georgia. As a result of the aggression, several tens of thousand persons had to flee from South Ossetia, whose problems remain unsettled. South Ossetia stands for step-by-step settlement of the refugee problem with an account to international law and existing realities. This is what we reiterated", said Murat Djioev.
