A round table was held at the South Ossetian Research Institute, dedicated to the problem of countering the falsification of the history of the Great Patriotic War.

The event was organized by the department of modern and contemporary history of the Institute.

The participants of the round table were employees of the South Ossetian Research Institute, representatives of the Russian Embassy, and members of Parliament.

The main speaker at the event was the head of the department, Candidate of Philosophy, professor of the South Ossetian State University Kosta Dzugaev.

Dzugaev focused on the mass nature of falsifications related to the history of the Great Patriotic War.

He has noted that a number of sources claim that the USSR was allegedly not ready for this war, which does not correspond to historical facts.

"Such statements not only distort historical reality, but also undermine public consciousness, forming false ideas about the events of the past. If this were really so, then victory would have become impossible," he said.

The professor emphasized the importance of the objective and scientific approach to the study of history.

Doctor of History Valery Dzidzoev believes that more in-depth research into the events of the Great Patriotic War is needed.

"The problem is so important and extensive that dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of arguments can be given. Today, archives contain thousands of archival files related to the history of the Great Patriotic War, and if we add materials from the archives of European countries that participated in World War II, their number will exceed thousands," Dzidzoev said.

According to him, the above indicates that many issues related to the history of the Great Patriotic War and the World War II, remain insufficiently studied.

Researcher at the South Ossetian Research Institute Irina Gagloeva has emphasized that falsification of the history of the Great Patriotic War can be countered with the help of good research.

“Falsification of history is major problem today, which is being addressed at the state level. It is difficult to combat it in this case, but it is possible with the help of objective scientific research,” Gagloeva has noted.

She has added that there is no fundamental research on the Great Patriotic War in South Ossetia.

“There are only individual works. In such conditions, it is easy for falsifiers,” the researcher has emphasized.

Member of Parliament Alexander Pliev has also noted that the historical truth is being distorted, which must be countered.

“A powerful Western propaganda machine was working against us, distorting the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War. We must unite and work to ensure that our children know the real history,” Pliev said.
