Europe has "forgotten" about the conclusions of the report of its own commission headed by Heidi Tagliavini, in which Georgia was recognized as the aggressor in August 2008.

This is stated in the commentary of the representative of the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry regarding the report of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe "Conflict in Georgia".

As noted by the Ministry, the latest consolidated report repeatedly repeats the unfounded allegations about the so-called occupation of Georgia and the grave situation in the field of human rights and security in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and also contains a traditional set of "instructions" on the withdrawal of the Russian troops, immediate admission of the international human rights defenders, etc.

The Foreign Ministry has emphasized, that the highly politicized report was supported by Albania, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Monaco, North Macedonia, Norway, San Marino, Ukraine, Great Britain and approved by the European Union.

“Unfortunately, Europe and its international structures are increasingly moving away from reality and the actual state of affairs. The geopolitical situation in the Caucasus has changed radically over the past two decades, and ignoring it by the Europeans is counterproductive. The documents adopted are very biased, they, as a rule, do not mention either Georgia’s war crimes against South Ossetia and Abkhazia, or the victims suffered by our peoples,” the commentary reads.

The Foreign Ministry has reminded that Russia’s recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia has become a guarantee of peace and stability, and made it possible to live and develop.

“South Ossetia has its own path of development, based on the choice of its people. This is, first of all, strengthening relations with the guarantor of its security – the Russian Federation, building equal relations and mutually respectful dialogue with all countries,” the Foreign Ministry concluded.
