The Victory parade, dedicated to the 66 anniversary of the Great Victory is taking place at the Theatre square in Tskhinval. The servicemen of the military subdivisions of the Armed Forces of the Republic of South Ossetia, the 4th base of the Guards of the Ministry of the RF and also the servicemen of the Border management of the FSS of Russia in South Ossetia have marched solemnly along the square. The combat equipment of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RSO, including tanks T-72, BPM-2, RZSO BM-23, as well as the different types of the armored cars and artillery have also driven along the Theatre square.
The Parade is taken by the Minister for Defence of the Republic, a major general Valeriy Yakhnovets and is commanded by the Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs, a major general Ibragim Gasseev. President Eduard Kokoity has congratulated the veterans, the Russian servicemen and frontier-guards, as well as the people of South Ossetia. "The Great Victory has shown the power of the unity of people, who have reflected the invasion of the fascist hordes and defended their liberty and have protected their Fatherland. The sons and daughters of Ossetia had been fighting in the first rows in that terrible war, defending their Native land and smashing the enemy on land, on sea, and in midair. Ossetia will always honour their feat. The 9 of May will remain for our people the day of national pride and great military glory forever", - has noted Eduard Kokoity. The Head of the state has congratulated the defenders of the Fatherland, who stood up the rights of the people of South Ossetia to live happily in the free land of their ancestors. The President has also congratulated the soldiers and the officers of the contingent of the Russian troops in the Republic of South Ossetia, who in August 2008 by their courage and military valor had shown the whole world that the Russian army carefully keeps the glorious combat traditions and also keeps in mind the science of winning. It has been informed lately that 37 veterans died in South Ossetia last year. At present there are 136 veterans in the Republic. Today the festive actions are taking place in the whole Republic. Demonstration of films about the Great Patriotic War, a large festive concert with the participation of the Abkhazian folk dance group ''The Caucasus'' will take place at the Theatre place in the evening. The festive salute in honour of the Victory day will traditionally complete the celebration.
