THE GOD HAS HEARD OUR PRAYERS
The night from 7–8 August 2008 after Saakashvili has declared cease-re and the people calmed down a little, many went to bed. No one could expect that Saakashvili has deceitfully lied to them (although it was not the rst time).
At 11.50 THE ATROCITIES OF WAR PERFORMED BY THE GEORGIAN TROOPS BEGAN. We descended into the cellar, to shelter from the shooting attack. There was no electricity there, no water, and no food. Though, we didn’t think much of hunger – if only we could escape death, we thought. We had no idea of what happened in the city, with our dear – it was impossible even to peep out.

The house was shaking and quaking because of the exploding shells. We were battered by fear and panic. The mobile communications were interrupted. If only the phones worked we could get to know something about each other. We kneeled down and prayed, even those, who never wanted even to hear the name of God. We prayed God to save us.
At some moment we heard that too many people are already killed, that the Georgians have sauntered through the town, killing everyone – they didn’t care whether they had a child or an old man in front of them.
When it calmed down a little we went out of the cellars, just to see the daylight, at least a ray of light. After all it’s not easy to spend days in a damp cellar. The people who went out were exchanging information hastily, afraid of a new attack. After ve minutes of silence – not more – we had to run again in our shelter. The shooting has restarted; we heard the roaring of salvo. We were all trembling with fear in our cellars, waiting for a deadly missile that would hit us and take our lives.
God has heard our prayers. He has sent Russia to help us. Finally the subunits of 58th Army entered South Ossetia. As they moved our hope to save ourselves emerged.
The war was over! The people went out of the cellars... I still hear this moaning; see that smoke over the burnt houses... The ruins that the Georgians left in our city... I will always remember this and see it clearly like it happened yesterday.
