Today, February 29, the Central Election Committee of South Ossetia has completed the registration of candidates for the presidency of the Republic. It has been reported to IA "Res" by the CEC of the Republic. "We have examined documents of 20 action groups and two political parties, nominated their candidates for the presidency. Four of them have been registered as the presidential candidates.
They are: former Chairman of the KGB of South Ossetia, Leonid Tibilov, Human Rights Ombudsman under the President of South Ossetia David Sanakoev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to Russia Dmitry Medoev and leader of the Communist Party Stanislaus Kochiev"- has been stated at the CEC. Thus from among the 22 contenders for the presidency only four have been registered. Three candidates themselves have refused to participate in the presidential race - former Chairman of the State Committee of Information, Communications and Mass Media Georgy Kabisov, Deputy Defense Minister of the RSO Igor Alborov and former presidential representative in the RSO Parliament Tarzan Kokoity. 15 presidential aspirants were denied to be registered due to discrepancy of their documents to the CEC requirements. Some of the presidential contenders could not get through the exam in the state languages proficiency.
Re-election of the President of South Ossetia is scheduled for March 25. The results of the elections, held November, 27, 2011, were recognized invalid by the Supreme Court of South Ossetia because of the committed violations.
