A photo exhibition "People and Fates" dedicated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) activities in South Ossetia and in the world has started in Tskhinval. The event dedicated to people of the North Caucasus and South Ossetia, was attended by representatives of the authorities, media and public, as well as the clergy and the Russian Embassy in the Republic of South Ossetia.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the head of the ICRC office in Tskhinval Pierre Rayshel said that exactly 20 years ago, the Red Cross had begun providing assistance to residents of South Ossetia affected by the armed conflict.
"The International Committee of the Red Cross is sympathetic to the sufferings of people and seeks to assist all victims of this conflict. Now, thank God, there is no fighting, but its effects are still affecting the lives of citizens. Therefore, the ICRC will continue to assist the local population", - underlined Rayshel. He introduced the work and principles of the Red Cross in the territory of South Ossetia, and also thanked the local authorities and the Embassy of Russia in South Ossetia, which had always been sympathetic to the measures taken by the ICRC and had provided its staff all possible assistance in their work.
"I hope that the ICRC and the power structures of South Ossetia will continue to maintain mutual understanding and constructive cooperation aimed at assisting the victims of the armed conflict", - added the head of the office.
Speaking further, the spokesperson of the ICRC office in Tskhinval Marina Tedety told the audience about the purpose of the exhibition. According to her, the pictures are made by the ICRC employee Marco Kokich. "In 2011, during his visit to Dagestan, Chechnya, North Ossetia, Ingushetia and South Ossetia, Kokich personally acquainted with the people who had been suffering from the effects of the armed conflicts and were the recipients of the International Committee of the Red Cross" - explained Tedety. She has noted that through his works the author of the photographs wants to draw attention of the world humanity to sufferings and pain experienced by people affected by the hostilities and their consequences in the North Caucasus and South Ossetia. Tedety added that the exhibition had already been exhibited in Grozny, Makhachkala and Khasavyurt. "War always leaves an indelible mark on the lives of people who become its victims. That is why the International Committee of the Red Cross has been carrying out its activities for helping the most vulnerable people in the North Caucasus and in South Ossetia ", - added the spokesperson during her conversation with the correspondent of IA" Res".
It should be noted that within the framework of the event these days the thematic lectures about the history of the ICRC, various aspects of the organization and its principles, the basics of the international humanitarian law, the International Tracing Service, demonstrating movies, etc., will also be conducted in Tskhinval.
The events will be held in the capital of South Ossetia April 23 -30.
