May 29, the Republic of South Ossetia will be marking the 21st anniversary of the Act of Independence of the Republic of South Ossetia, adopted at the height of the Georgian military aggression against South Ossetia.
This was another important step in the way to legal recognition and formation of the statehood of South Ossetia proclaimed on September 20, 1990. Based upon the right to self-determination, taking into account the will of the people expressed in the referendum in 1992, realizing the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Republic of South Ossetia, the Supreme Council of May 29, 1992 officially proclaimed the independence of South Ossetia and the establishment of the independent state.
The formation of the Republic of South Ossetia was the historically justified, legal and morally justifiable consequence of the development of political and legal processes in the modern world. Since the beginning of the collapse of the USSR, the cancellation all the legal acts in Georgia adopted in the Soviet time, in the face of a broad anti-Ossetian campaign, South Ossetia faced the need to form a government as the only protection frame and guarantee of the rights and freedoms of its people. The signing of the Act of Independence of the Republic of South Ossetia was crucial for the people of South Ossetia and through the decisive actions of the first convocation of the Parliament of South Ossetia was formed our country.
The people of South Ossetia went through the trials of military aggression and blockade.
Today the Republic of South Ossetia is a sovereign, recognized, democratic, legal state with all state attributes. The public authorities of the Republic carry out state control, protecting and honoring the human rights and freedoms, passing laws and issuing appropriate regulations. In South Ossetia are carried out economic and social reforms to create a modern democratic state.
