In Tskhinval, during the week, conducted its work a joint Russian-South Ossetian conciliation commission, composed of representatives of the military departments of South Ossetia and Russia.
According to the press service of the South Ossetian Defense Ministry, the Commission was formed after the appeal of South Ossetia’s Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Ibragim Gasseev to the head of the Russian defense department, Army General Sergei Shoigu.
The meeting was attended by the South Ossetian Defense Minister Ibrahim Gasseev, Chief of the General Staff of the Republic’s Armed Forces, Major General Viktor Fedorov, Presidential Adviser Alexander Krainov and others.
The Russian part of the commission has included representatives of various departments of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ibrahim Gasseyev welcomed representatives of the Russian delegation and recalled that in 2010 an agreement was signed between the states on a joint Russian military base in the Republic of South Ossetia.
“I am pleased to note that the presence of the Russian armed forces is the guarantor of peace and security of South Ossetia and creates conditions for the development of the state. Thanks to the presence of the Russian military, we look to the future with confidence,” he said.
The Minister has reminded that, according to Article 23 of the document, a conciliation commission is established to resolve issues arising during the implementation of the agreement.
“The creation of this commission is dictated by time, since it became necessary to resolve some issues of mutual interest,” he stressed.
The members of the Russian delegation thanked Ibrahim Gasseev for the warm welcome and the creation of comfortable working conditions.
During the meeting,were discussed important issues related to the activities of the 4th military base, interaction with the Ministry of defense of South Ossetia and various state authorities of the Republic.
The result of the commission’s work was the signing of a protocol by the chairmen of the working groups.
On the final day of the mission, the Russian delegation honored the memory of the fallen Russian peacekeepers and servicemen, laying wreaths and flowers to the Poklonnaya cross at the barracks of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and to the monument to the Hero of Russia, Major Denis Vetchinov.
