7.5 thousand residents of South Ossetia took part in the action "Immortal Regiment", held immediately after the military parade in Tskhinval, dedicated to the 74th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. At the beginning of the march on the Theater Square of the capital was carried the Red Banner of Victory. The "Immortal Regiment" was headed by the President of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov. The action was also attended by the heads of government and parliament, all ministries and departments, schools and preschool institutions of the city, districts, etc.
All participants of the nationwide action "Immortal Regiment" carried portraits of representatives of South Ossetia who had taken part in the Great Patriotic War.
During the work of the Headquarters of the "Immortal Regiment" of South Ossetia, as a result of remote work and numerous correspondence, was clarified the fate and burials of 952 people, most of whom had died a hero's death on the battlefields: in the battles for Moscow, Leningrad, Polesye, and, of course, Kerch ...
Another action was held under the title “Lively Regiment - the heirs of the victory”, during which residents of South Ossetia carried photos of the republic’s defenders, including Russian servicemen, who gave their lives in repelling the aggression of fascist Georgia in 1989–2008. This year the number of participants in the action has increased a lot - there were about 1,500 thousand. In total, about 10 thousand people took part in the march.
In 2015, 3,600 people took part in this action, in 2016 there were more than 4,800, and in 2017, 2018, more than 5,000 people.
In the years of the Great Patriotic War, about 21736 people went to the front from South Ossetia, 11711 soldiers of the Soviet army were killed in the battles, more than 7 thousand were missing.
