Georgian power structures do not abandon attempts to deploy new observation posts in various sections of the state border
The Georgian side continues to take steps that could lead to an aggravation of the situation on the state border with South Ossetia in the short term, the Republic’s State Security Committee said on Monday.
At the same time, the KGB of the Republic is particularly concerned about the active participation in these activities of the staff of the EU Observer Mission (EUMM), who are almost always involved in provocative actions.
“So, on May 21, in the evening, the outfit of the KGB Border Service of the RSO detected the fact of illegal crossing of the state border in the vicinity of the settlement of Ksuis of the Tskhinval district of the Republic by Georgia by the Georgian police and of the EUMM ,representatives” the press service of the Committee said.
The next day, May 22, Georgian police officers, violating the state border regime near the village. of Khelchua of the Tskhinvali district, penetrated about ten meters into the territory of the Republic.
"After a direct warning of the border guards of the RSO KGB, they left the territory of the Republic," the Committee notes.
The Committee has reminded that in October 2019, in the area of the village of Uista, Znaur district, the border guards of the KGB Border Service of the RSO already detained a group of the Mission representatives who admitted that they allegedly happened to be in South Ossetia, as “lost their orientation and got lost”, despite the fact that they were all equipped with the latest navigation devices.
"This year the situation is repeating itself," the committee’s press service emphasized.
The KGB of South Ossetia has also noted that the Georgian security forces do not abandon attempts to deploy new observation posts at various sections of the state border between South Ossetia and Georgia.
“In particular, at present, the Georgian police, while completely ignoring the EUMM, are considering placing their employees in the vicinity of the village of Dzeglev of the Leningor District, in the area immediately adjacent to the border line. The illegal presence of the Georgian police and the EUMM representatives in the territory of South Ossetia, as well as the attempts to equip new strongholds along the state border line increase military risks and create a potential threat of escalation of the conflict, "the report said.
According to the intelligence service, the situation is aggravated by the fact that "Georgia has been carrying out aggressive information attacks, actions and calls aimed at provoking the residents of the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgian border settlements to illegally crossing the state border for various purposes." At the same time, the Tbilisi regime does not even consider the difficult sanitary and epidemiological situation and the possibility of the spread of coronavirus infection.
In this regard, the Committee is particularly concerned about the fact that the EUMM representatives, who are called upon to reduce tensions and promote to create conditions for the peaceful coexistence of South Ossetia and Georgia, do not make proper efforts to impede Georgia’s aggressive policy and actively participate in the activities along the state border line.
Such behavior of the European representatives can lead to the formation in the consciousness of the political elite of Georgia of a stable idea of their impunity, permissiveness and, as a result, to a relapse of aggressive actions towards South Ossetia.
The Committee has reminded that the state border of the Republic of South Ossetia is under reliable protection, and all violators crossing it in violation of applicable law fall into the sectors of influence of the South Ossetian border forces.
The KGB has noted that all this happens despite the repeated statements by the Tbilisi regime about its alleged commitment to the principles of non-use of force in matters of post-conflict settlement of relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia.
