South Ossetia is marking the 28th anniversary of the introduction of the Joint Peacekeeping Force in the Republic of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict. Solemn events began on Tuesday morning with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the “stele of peacekeepers”. The ceremony was attended by President of the Republic Anatoly Bibilov, Prime Minister Eric Pukhaev, Speaker of the Parliament Alan Tadtaev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, military personnel, including former peacekeepers, and representatives of the Republic’s public.

They also laid flowers and wreaths at the “barracks of peacekeepers”.

On Tuesday, as part of the event, an exhibition of works by artists of South Ossetia dedicated to the peacekeepers of Russia and Ossetia will open. The event will be held at the Anakharsis Republican National Library.

Later, a meeting between the leadership of the Republic and the peacekeepers of South Ossetia will take place and the meeting "with friends ..." will end the Peacemaker’s Day.

It should be noted that on July 14, 1992, a mixed peacekeeping force was introduced into the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone, which became the guarantor of peace for the next 16 years, before the armed attack of Georgia on South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.
