South Ossetia took part in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the League of Arab States

The Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia took part in a gala reception on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the formation of the League of Arab States, the press service of the diplomatic department reports.

"The invitation to the event was received from the head of the organization's representative office in Moscow, Walid Hamid Shiltagh.

The event was attended by the leadership of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Moscow," the press service said.

The League of Arab States vigorously advocates for peace and stability in the Middle East, making tireless efforts to protect the principles of multilateralism and the common interests of the Arab world.

"Russia and the League of Arab States have long-standing friendly relations based on mutual respect and support," the Embassy has emphasized.

The League of Arab States (LAS) is a regional intergovernmental organization. It was established in Cairo on March 22, 1945. The founding countries are Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan and Yemen.

Currently, the League includes 21 states: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Libya (joined in 1953), Sudan (1956), Tunisia (1958), Morocco (1958), Kuwait (1961), Algeria (1962), Qatar (1971), Bahrain (1971), Oman (1971), UAE (1971), Mauritania (1973), Somalia (1974), Djibouti (1977), Comoros (1993). In addition, the Palestine Liberation Organization has been a member of the League since 1976.
