Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia has expressed the most serious concern over the rapid escalation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"Of particular concern are the incoming reports about full-scale military actions waged by Azerbaijan with the use of heavy equipment, artillery and aviation, killed and wounded, including among the civilian population of Artsakh, destruction of civilian infrastructure, violations of international humanitarian law," the South Ossetian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Republic of South Ossetia, in order to prevent a further escalation of hostilities threatening to destabilize the entire regional security system, appeals to the international community to "immediately make every possible effort to resolve the situation, prevent the military intervention of third countries and provide the parties to the conflict with the opportunity to further search for ways to resolve it peacefully. ".

Earlier it was reported that Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan had declared martial law and general mobilization.

“Based on the current situation, I declared martial law and the mobilization of all men over 18,” said Harutyunyan, quoted by his press service.

He has noted that Artsakh is a supporter of peace.

"We do not want war, war has been imposed on us, and we are obliged to defend our homeland and families. The leadership of Azerbaijan will bear full responsibility. President of Azerbaijan will be personally responsible for the situation fraught with a humanitarian catastrophe," Harutyunyan said.

On the morning of September 27, the press service of the Artsakh Defense Ministry reported about the fierce fighting in the Karabakh conflict zone.

"On September 27, at 7:15 am (6:15 am Moscow time), the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, using artillery and attack drones, launched an offensive along the entire line of contact between the Artsakh and Azerbaijani forces. Settlements located in the deep rear, as well as the capital Stepanakert, were also chosen as targets," the press service of the Defense Ministry reported.
