Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and the head of the US delegation to the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, Andrew Shofer, discussed the regional agenda at their meeting on Tuesday, including interaction in the format of the Geneva Discussions.

"An interested exchange of views took place on topical topics of the regional agenda with an emphasis on interaction in the format of the Geneva discussions," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting was held at the request of the American side.

International discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia are held in Geneva since 2008 with the participation of Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and the United States, with the mediation of UN, EU and OSCE special envoys. Traditionally, the work is carried out in two working groups - on security and on humanitarian issues. The Geneva discussions remain the only platform for dialogue between Sukhum, Tskhinval and Tbilisi.
