On December 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet with the Foreign Ministers of South Ossetia and Abkhazia Dmitry Medoev and Inal Ardzinba. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic issued on Sunday.
"On December 20, are scheduled the meetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation S. V. Lavrov with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia D. N. Medoev and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia I. B. Ardzinba," the ministry stated.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, as part of the talks in the bilateral and trilateral format, it is planned to exchange views on key issues of Russia's relations with these republics, foreign policy coordination and regional security.
On Smolenskaya Square they have reminded that Russia is linked with Abkhazia and South Ossetia "by close allied relations, which have a solid legal basis and are not subject to conjuncture."
"In accordance with the line approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia has been actively assisting the young states of Transcaucasia in becoming modern democratic states, strengthening their international positions, ensuring reliable security and socio-economic development," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. Thus, the republics are provided with comprehensive assistance in the fight against COVID-19.
The Foreign Ministry also noted the regular nature of the dialogue at the level of heads of state as well as through ministries. Active interaction has been established within the framework of the Russian-Abkhaz and Russian-South Ossetian intergovernmental commissions on socio-economic cooperation, investment programs are being implemented to promote socio-economic development of each of the republics for 2020-2022.
